Piano and machine meet... But no, they don't usually. Piano meets violin, then they remain in their own familiar company, and if the piano is amplified, it is usually in the context of kitschy pop. The German duo Grandbrothers is different. The two musicians truly make something new out of a piano and a computer, together with a self-built apparatus that has been fine-tuned over the years and that controls the instrument’s hammers. The result sounds so fantastic that the duo merited an entire page in the Frankfurter Allgemeine. It was a rave review.
