Whitsun Festival
SWR SymphonieorchesterWhat does immortality sound like? It cannot be: Isolde is not dead. She's going away - to another world, to another state, to something that lures us in, that we've been longing for all along. Teodor Currentzis gives a hint of that when he conducts "Isolde's Liebestod" at the Whitsun Festival, from Wagner's rapturous, taboo musical drama "Tristan und Isolde." There is sweet transfiguration without eroticism in the third act of "Parsifal," sung by Bayreuth star Andreas Schager. Also to die for - and also by Wagner, who is at the center of this Whitsun Festival.

La Capitale d'Été
Summer Festival Baden-BadenBig Apple in Baden-Baden: The Metropolitan Opera New York brings splendor to the Oos. With its orchestra, with chief conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the goddess Joyce DiDonato. The program is a tribute to the festival and world heritage city. The gala concert "25 Years of the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden" will feature arias from the "Trojans" by Hector Berlioz. It was he who invented the festival idea for Baden-Baden in the middle of the 19th century. At that time, people spoke of the "summer capital of Europe". With these festivals, it remains so: Baden-Baden is "La Capitale d'Été".

The World of John Neumeier
Dance Festival Baden-BadenThe premiere of the dance festival "The World of John Neumeier" in fall 2022 was a crowd puller. With "Sleeping Beauty," a favorite piece in his repertoire, John Neumeier is following it up in 2023. In his version of the fairy tale ballet based on Tchaikovsky and Petipa, the prince, a person of our time, meets Sleeping Beauty - a dream princess from the era of classical ballet. The question remains: is there a good awakening? "Dona Nobis Pacem," John Neumeier's latest choreography, is a prayer for peace in the language of dance. For in "The World of John Neumeier" there is room for the hope that all art lovers share: Dreams can move worlds.
