Anna Netrebko and Kirill Petrenko

Berliner Philharmoniker; music from Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky und Stravinsky

Description Program Artists

On their exploration of Russian music in Baden-Baden, it was simply a matter of time before Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker teamed up with Anna Netrebko. The great soprano always enjoys returning to her artistic roots in her homeland. Her performance this evening will feature the famous Letter Scene from Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin, in which the young girl Tatyana undergoes an incredible process of maturation while writing a letter. The concert will begin and conclude with the music of two of Tchaikovsky’s admirers: the Romances by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky's celebrated Firebird. All three composers share the primacy of melody – a tradition that also characterizes the Russian singing school, which, with Anna Netrebko, produced its greatest star to date.
