Festival Gala 2022

Berliner Philharmoniker - Andris Nelsons - musical direction

The 2022 Festival Gala will feature international soloists from the world of opera under the musical direction of Andris Nelsons. "We are very happy that many renowned singers have spontaneously agreed to join us," says Festspielhaus artistic director Benedikt Stampa. Their selection of arias and duets sends a message of international understanding from Baden-Baden.

The longing for peace (Verdi's aria: "Pace, pace") speaks from the music no less clearly than the enlightened spirit that inspires understanding between peoples and provides the spiritual basis for living together in freedom. "La calunnia e un venticello" takes up a theme that is also central to "Queen of Spades" and is of tremendous relevance today: the deadly power of rumors - or, in modern terms of rumor - or, in modern terms, of "fake news".
