Joffrey Ballet Chicago

John Neumeier presents the Joffrey Ballet. In a distinctly American way, the company, which was founded in 1956, brings together extremes. Here, diversity is what it’s all about: they dance both modern and en pointe and were the first company ever to combine classical ballet with rock music on stage. The dancers are also no strangers to the big screen, having starred in The Company, a film by American cult director Robert Altmann. For its Festspielhaus debut, the troupe will be showcasing an American classic: John Steinbeck's novella Of Mice an Men, about George and Lenny, two very different friends at the time of the Depression in the 1930s. Celebrated for her literary ballets, Cathy Marston splits George into two dancers in her choreography in order to show the different facets of his personality.
