Haydn: The creation

Thomas Hengelbrock

Light and joy in the gray of November: the Balthasar Neumann Choir celebrates its debut at the 2024 Autumn Festival with Haydn's magnificent Creation. Today we can hardly imagine the success that The Creation enjoyed in Haydn's time. Since then, the enthusiasm for this "oratorio of all oratorios" has been passed on from generation to generation. The work’s most famous passage? “And God said: Let there be light!” The C major chord that shines forth after this announcement resounds like the most glorious protest against any gloominess, pessimism, or bickering at the state of the world. A celebration – both for the Balthasar Neumann Ensembles and for the audience.
