The 12 Cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker

50 Years of the 12 Cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker

Description Artists

“The cello touches our feelings on a deep, unfathomable level” – a quote from Yehudi Menuhin which, given the fact that Menuhin was a violinist, is all the more meaningful. There are many reasons why the cello is so unique: its elegant form which is virtually embraced by the player, its great lyrical quality, and the variety of its sound, which ranges from deep soothing tones to piercing, menacing heights. The 12 cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker are well acquainted with the special features of their instrument and have been affirming its varied expressive potential for precisely 50 years. From the light-hearted to the serious, with equal parts humor and earnestness, they enjoy taking their listeners along on a lively journey through music history. They invite you to come along with them this evening!
