Wolfgang Haffner´s Dreamband

A meeting of jazz greats

Description Program Artists

When a band sounds good, it always has a good drummer: this is one of Wolfgang Haffner's core beliefs. And he has had plenty of opportunity to convince the greatest that he is right. At the age of 17 he got a call from the legendary trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff, who invited him to join his band – a knighting at the age of a squire. Next he played with Klaus Doldinger. Haffner has drummed for Chaka Khan and Hildegard Knef, for Pat Metheny and Die Fantastischen Vier, for Till Brönner and Nightmares on Wax. After hundreds of albums and tours around the world, he still has dreams, and will now be making one of them come true in the Festspielhaus when he assembles his dream band. Old friends and companions like trombonist Nils Landgren and trumpeter Randy Brecker will be there, along with saxophonist Bill Evans, who performed with Miles Davis. On the Hammond organ and vibraphone, two younger musicians provide an almost exotic counterweight to the funk- and fusion-centered wind trio. What do Wolfgang Haffner's dreams sound like? With this spectacular and exceptional line-up, we certainly can’t wait to find out.
