Vladimir Jurowski and Julia Fischer

London Philharmonic Orchestra

Description Program Artists

“My God, what a great program,” said a member of our editorial team upon seeing this amazing combination: Jurowski, Fischer, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra in a program of Elgar and Rachmaninoff. With the Vocalise, a brief orchestral hit serves as the bridge between two large-scale symphonies. Elgar's Concerto, after all, is nothing else: a symphony for violin and orchestra, sprawling, romantic, somber, and festive. Rachmaninoff's Third combines Russian and American elements in a way that the great American film musicals would learn from. The names of the musicians speak for themselves: Julia Fischer and the London Philharmonic Orchestra are regular guests at the Festspielhaus, together with Jurowski, who succeeded the current chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Kirill Petrenko, as music director of the Bayerische Staatsoper.
