Marc Minkowski conducts Rameau

Une Nouvelle Symphonie Imaginaire

Description Program Artists

Jean-Philippe Rameau, the “French Bach,” is a musical giant whom the Festspielhaus audience met during the last, 2019/20 season – with Teodor Currentzis, among other artists. Rameau’s music had an extraordinary palette of tonal colors. He re-established Western harmony and experimented with completely new instrumental combinations. We would like to pay further tribute to this composer, who only in recent years has really come into the focus of music lovers’ attention. This repertoire requires performers who are musically at home in the 18th century. In France, Marc Minkowski and the Ensemble Les Musiciens du Louvre are a byword for music of this period, and we are delighted to welcome them to the Festspielhaus.
