This concert is a tribute to jazz musicians Alfred Lion and Frank Wolff. The two artists met in 1920s Berlin. Because of their Jewish background, they emigrated to the U.S. and founded their Blue Note label in New York. Alfred was the talent scout and producer, while Frank (later Francis) worked as the photographer and cover designer. This evening we pay our musical respects to these two jazz maniacs, who helped African American artists to launch international careers before most American labels.
