Cinderella
Bayerisches Staatsballett
The fairy tale in a nutshell? Poor girl becomes princess, or: from ashes to diamond. In other words, perfect for the Christmas season. In his Cinderella, Prokofiev shows what he already demonstrated in Peter and the Wolf, namely how wonderfully he could compose music that thrills both children and adults alike. Like Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, his Cinderella also heightens the musical expression to operatic dimensions – but at the same time is fairy-tale-like, audacious, and always incredibly inspired. British choreographer Christopher Wheeldon has created a fairy-tale choreography for Amsterdam’s Dutch National Ballet which harks back to the original fairy-tale version by the Brothers Grimm.
