Lucas and Arthur Jussen

Piano music by Mozart, Schubert and Shostakovich

Description Program Artists

Piano virtuosos Lucas and Arthur Jussen will kick off the five-day festival on the internet. On Holy Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 8:15 pm, the brothers will perform works by Mozart, Schubert, and Shostakovich for four hands on two pianos.

The Dutch brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen have been playing the piano since their early childhood. They were quickly recognized as child prodigies, performed in front of the Dutch Queen Beatrix, and won many prizes in competitions – always together, as a duo. “I can't imagine playing with anyone else. It's as if we're one person,” says Lucas Jussen, the elder of the two by three years. The brothers perform with renowned orchestras throughout the world and tours have taken the two pianists to Asia. The duo has already worked with Andris Nelsons, Valery Gergiev, Sir Neville Marriner, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In July 2020 they performed a recorded concert from the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam for the Tanglewood 2020 Online Festival.

They made their Festspielhaus debut in October 2019 and are now looking forward to performing at the HAUSFESTSPIEL. They also see an opportunity in the digital streaming offering, since for years they have been pursuing the goal of “playing not only for an audience that is familiar with classical music.”
