It’s the "superband of European jazz," as the critics cheer: for 4 Wheel Drive, four all-time greats are coming together. Trombonist and singer Nils Landgren, pianist Michael Wollny, bassist Lars Danielsson, and percussionist Wolfgang Haffner – all four have frequently performed in different ensembles at the Festspielhaus, but never before together as a quartet. The band’s name already alludes to its all-star quality. In 2018, Nils Landgren founded the band. Two Germans join him and his Swedish compatriot Lars Danielsson on bass: drummer Wolfgang Haffner, a sought-after performer in jazz, funk, and pop, and Michael Wollny with his refined sense of tone at the piano. With 4 Wheel Drive, they will present their own compositions and pop adaptations of songs by Billy Joel, Phil Collins, and Lennon/McCartney.
