Since the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean at the latest, the legend of the Flying Dutchman has been a part of pop culture: the phantom ship condemned to eternal wandering. Wagner's opera takes us to the world of dark Romanticism, eerie and full of longing for redemption. A thrilling gateway drug into Wagner's universe that will captivate even a young audience -– featuring a ship of death and a curse that can only be broken by love. Tomasz Konieczny, the internationally acclaimed Wagner baritone with engagements in Bayreuth, Vienna, and New York, brings a somber intensity to his roles. Johanni van Oostrum, a soprano from Cape Town with successes at the Salzburg Festival and on Europe's major stages, is known for her portrayal of determined Wagner, Strauss, and Janáček heroines.
