Wiener Symphoniker

Vilde Frang; Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducts Beethoven

Description Program Artists

After starting out as Anne-Sophie Mutter's star student, Vilde Frang is now Scandinavia's most celebrated violinist. She will be performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Wiener Symphoniker under their Colombian chief conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada. A piece that is both well-known and radical, since a violin concerto that opens with the solo timpani is a striking statement even to our modern ears. The violin only gets one opportunity to really play the first movement’s most beautiful melody, very softly at the end of the movement. This anticipates the final monologue of the Romantic period, the memory of a lost love at the end of an opera act – which we’ll get to experience when Herman looks back on his past in our Easter Festival opera The Queen of Spades.
