Goldscheider & Guarrera

Sunday Matinee

Every musical era has its favorite instruments. In the Romantic era, alongside the piano, it was the clarinet, the cello – and the horn. A piece of cold metal capable of singing, it stood for the magical transition. To this day we associate its sound less with day and night than with morning and evening – ambiguous times when things are only visible in the twilight. Robert Schumann translated this “in between” particularly impressively into musical tones. His Adagio and Allegro for horn and piano has been highly regarded since its premiere. The piano is so interwoven with the horn that we never know who takes the lead and when. Chamber music at its finest – with two young musicians who graduated from the Barenboim Said Academy together.
