When men and women compliment each other, they’re just practicing for the next time.
A main course? Sometimes there’s nothing better than a platter of luscious bite-size morsels – as will be served up on this evening’s program by the multi-award-winning Flemish wind and string ensemble Oxalys. The concert begins with a “serenade in vain,” in which Danish composer Carl Nielsen tells the amusing story of men whose musical offering fails to impress the women, even if in the end, the men don’t seem to mind. Trivialities like these are a lot of fun – both for the musicians and for the audience, whom we’re happy to be presenting, at long last, another splendid wind ensemble.
