Think art isn’t a talent show? Think again.
Quality in art can’t always be measured, but there are sure signs: like Yulianna Avdeeva’s winning the Warsaw Chopin Competition, the world’s most important piano competition. And the fact that Julia Fischer was once Germany’s youngest violin professor says a lot about the extraordinary caliber of this violinist. Both artists will be placing their talent at the service of great music: the sonatas by Brahms and Shostakovich are among the major works of the genre. Sumptuous and poetic, the dazzling Myths by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski are also waiting to be discovered.
