Händel: Messiah

The King’s Consort & Choir

  • Sun17December17:00 H

For Britons, the German Handel is a composer of their own, and his Messias – naturally sung in English as the Messiah – a national treasure. The work can thus look back on a longer performance tradition than Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in Germany. So we seized the opportunity of presenting Handel’s most beloved oratorio with an entirely British ensemble: with choir singers who have known the music from the cradle, but performed in a way that is specifically British. The vocal sound, influenced by the ideal of the boys’ choir, is much brighter and richer in overtones than in the Continental choirs. A truly unique experience and wonderful example of how new traditions can be born when different cultures join hands.
