Model application approved

Festspielhaus Baden-Baden will be permitted to play in front of at least 500 guests in July

The Festspielhaus Baden-Baden will again be welcoming at least 500 guests per event from the beginning of July. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, and Integration has approved the corresponding model project application for Germany’s largest opera house.

“In constructive discussions, we were able to convince the authorities that our hygiene concept in the 2500-seat hall worked in autumn 2020 with 500 guests,” says Artistic Director Benedikt Stampa gratefully. “For us, 500 guests means 25 percent space utilization. That is the minimum we can count on for the concerts and opera performances in the summer. There is no comparable musical institution in Baden-Württemberg or in Germany. We thus fell through the cracks somewhat in the most recent reopening scenarios."

After this approval from the state capital, further tickets can go on sale for the Beethoven cycle (2.–10.7.) with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and music director of New York's MET Yannick Nézet-Séguin. There will also be more tickets for the performance of Winterreise with Joyce DiDonato.
