La clemenza di Tito – concert version of the opera
Rolando Villazón and Yannick Nézet-Séguin continue their Mozart project
At the 2017 Baden-Baden Summer Festival, this opera production marks the continuation of a series begun by Canadian conductor Yannick Nezét-Séguin and Mexican tenor Rolando Villazón a few years ago at Germany’s largest opera house. Both artists wanted to study and perform as many Mozart operas as possible and record them for a CD project with Deutsche Grammophon (Universal). To date, the operas Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro, and Die Entführung aus dem Serail have all been produced in Baden-Baden – and with La Clemenza di Tito, the duo will be taking on a new score in 2017. The ensemble for the production will also include American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and sopranos Sonya Yoncheva and Regula Mühlemann, who will be joining with Tara Erraught (Annius) and Adam Plachetka (Publius). The choral parts will be sung by Berlin’s RIAS Kammerchor, and as in every production of this “Baden-Baden Gala,” the orchestra will be the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Praised by the BBC as “the finest chamber orchestra in the world,” the ensemble brings together soloists and key members of major European orchestras during project phases to pursue a particular sound ideal.
