Wagner’s Siegfried-Idyll and the Wesendonck-Lieder are personal works that were written in the context of his operas. The Idyll was composed after the birth of his son, while the Lieder (sometimes literally) anticipate Tristan – they will be interpreted by Waltraud Meier, whose portrayal of Isolde is legendary. The works will be heard alongside Tchaikovsky’s imaginative Third Orchestral Suite.
