That Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker were set on performing Parsifal comes as no surprise: few of Wagner’s other works so superbly highlight the qualities of an elite orchestra. Wagner’s final opera is not only his most mysterious, but also features his most brilliant instrumentation. We present it in a new production with a splendid cast.
