With excerpts from Richard Wagner’s opera Götterdämmerung, Valery Gergiev harks back to the “Russian Ring” produced jointly by the Festival Hall Baden-Baden and the Mariinsky Theater in 2003. Before hearing Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony (“Pathétique”), we will get the chance to meet a new prizewinner of the Tchaikovsky Competition. This is precisely how Daniil Trifonov once came to Baden-Baden – long before he began making festival appearances elsewhere.
