Description Program Artists

All events for the second half of the 2020–2021 season are still planned, but cannot currently be booked. Advance ticket sales have been interrupted. The current experience with the coronavirus pandemic has shown us that in the event of strong demand (above the currently permitted 500 guests), advance sales can only be expanded once the official approval has been given to open the hall accordingly. We will continue to publish or confirm the final program six weeks before the scheduled event.

“Optimism in dance” – with these words, Deutschlandfunk celebrated the premiere of John Neumeier’s ballet Turangalîla. The symphonic original is a hymn to love whose orchestral dimensions surpass even the symphonies of Mahler. Messiaen’s music absorbs a wide range of influences like a sponge, including Indian rhythms and scales, meticulously-recorded bird songs, and Christian chorales. To this music Neumeier has created a choreography that largely dispenses with narrative and celebrates pure dance: from the grand pas de deux to classical tours en l’air, in which the dancers leap and spin out of pure joie de vivre.
