São Paulo Dance Company

Description Program Artists

All events for the second half of the 2020–2021 season are still planned, but cannot currently be booked. Advance ticket sales have been interrupted. The current experience with the coronavirus pandemic has shown us that in the event of strong demand (above the currently permitted 500 guests), advance sales can only be expanded once the official approval has been given to open the hall accordingly. We will continue to publish or confirm the final program six weeks before the scheduled event.

The tradition of Louis XIV still shines through, giving ballet in Europe an air of genteel aloofness. In Brazil, on the other hand, ballet is practically a symbol of democracy in action. Everyone dances, no matter who they are. Even in the slums of the favelas, you can find ballet schools. It is precisely this energy that quickly catapulted the São Paulo Dance Company, founded in 2008, into the international dance elite. Their democratic credo also extends to an equal treatment of styles. Classical choreographies and modern dance theater: everything has its place here, naturally first and foremost the South American dance tradition. The Festspielhaus will be filled with this modern Brazilian flair when the troupe presents some of its newest creations: works by young choreographers.
