Romeo and Juliet

Russian Winter 2022: Mariinsky Ballet

Description Program Artists

Once again we run out of superlatives. The most beautiful, the most passionate of the great ballet classics? In Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, love itself becomes music. The great Russian composer drew his inspiration from the great operas, from Verdi, Wagner, and Puccini – and so his masterpiece became an opera without words. It is one of the very few ballets capable of bringing tears to the audience's eyes – especially in this lavish traditional choreography that offers a true feast for the senses, featuring dances that have long since become classics.
