Hearing the same work twice

Description Program Artists

All events for the second half of the 2020–2021 season are still planned, but cannot currently be booked. Advance ticket sales have been interrupted. The current experience with the coronavirus pandemic has shown us that in the event of strong demand (above the currently permitted 500 guests), advance sales can only be expanded once the official approval has been given to open the hall accordingly. We will continue to publish or confirm the final program six weeks before the scheduled event.

With Repeat, the Festspielhaus is trying out a new and attractive concert format. The idea is to listen more closely to a substantial piece of music: once in excerpts, and then the whole work. At the beginning, the musicians will answer questions and play individual passages so the listener can really immerse him- or herself in the work afterwards. The very first program will be devoted to Olivier Messiaen’s legendary Quartet for the End of Time. The composer wrote this life-affirming music in a German prisoner-of-war camp. At the Festspielhaus it will be presented by the dramaturge and music educator Rafael Rennicke.
