Long-time Festival Hall guests associate Renée Fleming with two legendary Strauss productions: the American classical star (applied to her, the term is completely appropriate) chose our hall to make her debuts as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier and as Ariadne in the opera of the same name. This time the singer will be presenting lieder by Franz Schubert, Claude Debussy, Franz Liszt und Henri Duparc: the intoxicating beauty of this Art Nouveau music is tailor-made for her sumptuous voice. Superlatives are very much in order here, all the more so given the choice of accompanist. Evgeny Kissin, of course, is more than this – a pianist whose fame at least equals that of Fleming.
