Goldmund Quartett
Sunday matinee
The young Goldmund Quartett (ECHO Rising Star, nominated by the Festival Hall Baden-Baden and Philharmonie de Paris) has already released two CDs, one featuring music by Haydn and the other with music by Shostakovich. The string quartet was an integral part of the oeuvre of both composers, which means we can look forward to two splendid works on today’s program. The Largo from Haydn’s late quartet is the composer’s most beautiful slow movement. Sublime and deeply spiritual music – the perfect counterpart to Shostakovich’s more symphonically-conceived quartet.
