Diana Damrau and Nicolas Testé

„Royal Affairs – Kings and Queens of Opera“ music from Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi

Description Program Artists

Things are not always noble in the company of kings, as Festspielhaus audiences can currently witness at the court of Salome. Decadent rulers, queens who succumb to madness, empresses who sweet-talk their rivals with arias before poisoning them with wine: all this is commonly seen on stage, since it makes for great stories. And because arias of madness are generally maddeningly difficult to sing, they call for artists who possess boundless virtuosity, a wide range of expression, and enormous charisma – like German soprano Diana Damrau and French baritone Nicolas Testé. The two artists are a couple not only on stage, but also in life, which will hardly be a disadvantage in these royal “scenes from a marriage.”
