Yuja Wang is another impressive example of the Chinese “Lang Lang” generation. She plays the “Flight of the Bumblebee” so fast that famous jaws have been known to drop. Her first recordings are already being produced by the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft, and even the great Martha Argerich has remarked: “At the mere age of twenty, Yuja Wang has taken to the stage as a piano star.” What greater praise could a musician desire? At her Sunday Matinee debut, the young pianist from Beijing will present a diverse programme. In addition to a selection of lively sonatas by Scarlatti, she will also interpret Schumann’s highly technical Symphonic Etudes Op. 13 as well as a selection from Prokofiev’s collection of short works “Visions Fugitives” Op. 22. Finally, in Prokofiev’s virtuosic sixth sonata, Wang will pull out all the stops – her virtuosic technique, crystal clear touch, exceptional musical flair and intelligent phrasing will be on display.
