A red trombone? This only bothers the purists. Nevertheless, there are few musicians who would like to be known as “the man with the red horn”. Among jazz musicians, “horn” is the term used to refer to every type of wind instrument. When Nils Landgren commissioned a red trombone, it was surely the result of his mood. His trademark has  now gone, perhaps not a bad thing for a musical chameleon like Landgren. He has performed on over 500 CDs ranging from Swedish folk music to pop, funk and jazz, from duo to big band and symphony orchestra. Incidentally, he can also be heard on the 1979 Abba hit “Voulez Vous”. Today Landgren is the director of the Berlin Jazz Festival, a producer and singer while also remaining one of the greatest, ‘in demand’ trombone virtuosos. In the Festspielhaus he will initially show his jazzy chamber music side, then following the interval will be joined by more musicians to form the “Funk Unit”. You will find it impossible to stop your toes from tapping during this exciting concert!
