2010 Baden-Baden Gala with Anna Netrebko
Antonio Pappano und Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia
Composer: Pergolesi, Giovanni Battista
The New York Observer described her as “Audrey Hepburn with a voice” while The San Francisco Chronicle wrote of “a singer who has it all: imagination, understanding and spirit”. They are of course referring to Anna Netrebko, possibly the greatest operatic voice of today, whose repertoire is as extensive as it is diverse. Anna has recently announced that she will “sing at the Baden-Baden Gala on July 27th and 29th 2010” - just another reason to look forward to the 2010 season in the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Approximately a year after her success at the 2009 Summer Festival at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden – where she performed as Iolanta in Peter Tchaikovsky’s opera of the same name – she will return to the opera house on the River Oos with the final work by Italian Baroque composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi: the famous “Stabat Mater”, composed in 1736, the year of his death. Selected cantatas by Pergolesi and Vivaldi will complete the Gala program. Netrebko will be accompanied by the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Rome – an orchestra steeped in tradition - under the musical direction of Antonio Pappano.
