Romantic Piano Quartet
Sunday Matinee
Composer: Schumann, Robert
Chamber music is a misnomer. Today, merit points can once again be gained with house music. Should an off-handed comment be made about laying down some “house music”, the grandchildren suddenly find it decidedly ‘cool’. But the term ‘chamber music’ simply sounds boring – in fact, very much like a chamber – of no interest at all. However, we like to buck the trend and present lots of chamber music – extremely ‘cool’ chamber music, as the grandchildren would say. Both the Schumann and Brahms quartets display hit potential, even when listening to them for the first time. Those performing on stage today are not just conventional musicians – they are true stars of their instruments. They listen to and perform house music – even in chambers if necessary – but always to the highest standard.
