People can often ‘find’ themselves in the sanctuary of monasteries, on pilgrimages or by fasting. These trends are all worthy of support. However, we believe that peace of mind can also be found in a single day! A day with the complete Cello Suites by Bach is a journey in itself. It is a rare journey – with few cellists today feeling confident enough to perform all of the suites in a single day. At this point the idea behind the “Portrait of an Artist” concept can be revealed. In this series the soloists are able to experiment with things that they would perhaps not have the opportunity or courage to otherwise attempt. “What would happen if these works by Bach were to be performed in one batch?” questions Mischa Maisky, whose art lies in placing himself at the mercy of the music, daring to dance on the wire, being a daredevil. Well, he can always be sensible for the remaining 364 days of the year…!
