Composer: Brahms, Johannes

Hélène Grimaud became famous for her performances of Schumann and Brahms. It is the indirectness in the works of Brahms that appeals to her. When it is time for the first entry in the Piano Concerto No. 1, the musician makes it a typical ‘Grimaud moment’ – the music sneaks up almost unnoticed, taking the lead bar by bar. Don’t simply overpower – convince! This could well be Hélène Grimaud’s motto. She is as famous for her sincerity towards the music as she is notorious. Her cancellations are renowned, which is why the audience enthusiasm is all the greater when having the opportunity of experiencing her aura in concert. It is an aura which is delicate like a deer yet wild at the same time. Fans travel from far and wide to experience her live performances – a phenomenon that otherwise only happens with exceptional singers.
