Romantic Quartets

During the 19th century the number of male choirs performing folk songs – among other genres - shot up like mushrooms. Folk songs? That’s right, and put to music by none other than Brahms himself! To these folk songs can be added drinking songs (of course, men!) and romantic sentimentality, sometimes performed with emotion and at other times with powerful vitality. Falling out of favour in the 20th century, today these male quartets have made a refreshing resurgence, especially when made up of such prominent singers as those presented here this evening. “Die Liedertafel” brings together five world class soloists performing together for the sheer joy of singing. The audience can rest assured that this evening of entertainment will definitely be enjoyed by all.
