Piano Trio
Composer: Haydn, Joseph
Kirill Gerstein © Marco Borggreve
Every good artist comes to a cross road every now and again. Turn left to climb the career ladder, turn right and the very music which made becoming a musician seem so attractive awaits. To the left, reason says “One more Beethoven-Rachmaninoff-Tchaikovsky concert” and to the right, chamber music with friends beckons. Three such friends play today. Kolja Blacher was the youngest concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Clemens Hagen is a member of the world-renowned Hagen Quartet, and Kirill Gerstein shines, performing almost unplayable works such as Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. Today the trio will play Schubert. Technically they could accomplish it blindfolded, but musically, Schubert’s Second Piano Trio is a biographical novel, impossible to put down. We will now hand you back to these three friends – and to three excellent decisions at this particular crossroad.
