Trumpeters are in a difficult position. Unlike pianists who are able to select from hundreds of concerti, they generally have the choice of a standard 20 or so for their instrument. Now we’re not saying the trumpet concerti of Haydn, Albinoni and co. aren’t absolutely beautiful. However, everyone plays them and the competition is overwhelming. This makes the film recordings by young Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth all the more astounding as she upstages exactly this competition. The most difficult runs simply bubble when she plays them and she manages the seemingly unplayable with consummate ease. This young artist is an exceptional talent, and it is our great privilege and joy to introduce her to you.
