András Schiff
Piano Evening
Composer: Beethoven, Ludwig van
András Schiff © Prisca Ketterer
When young András Schiff was learning to play the piano, his teacher – the great Hungarian composer György Kurtág – allowed him to sing the music. Everything he learnt in those lessons has obviously remained with him, so it comes as no surprise to discover that the musician is also an extremely gifted accompanist of Lieder. He concentrates on the works of just a few composers, and these he plays regularly – most notably Bach, Beethoven, Schuman and Schubert. He has dedicated his artistic life to the classics, proclaiming “life is too short to dedicate it to second-rate music!”
