Music of the turn of the century

Those who follow the Festspielhaus programme long enough can witness the creation of an artist’s biography. A perfect example is the musical development of a talented young soprano, who began her career as Susanna in a “Figaro” production in the Festspielhaus ten years ago. She has since graced stages the world over, often under the baton of conductor Sir Simon Rattle. Now a mature artist, Camilla Tilling will appear on our stage this evening performing works by Alban Berg. His early songs are late-romantic pearls, outpourings (as they were referred to back then) of an overly-sensitive artistic soul. They are amongst the most beautiful of works ever written for a soprano.
