Cecilia Bartoli – is she just an exceptionally gifted singer? No, she has become so much more than that. Her name is a brand - Mercedes, Lagerfeld, “La Bartoli”. A characteristic trait of this “brand” is that she never disappoints, and as such, she is able to include even the most unknown of composers on her programme. Her audiences continue to stream into her concerts and are always richly rewarded. Her curiosity knows no bounds and rubs off on her interpretations of music by Vivaldi, Mozart, Handel and Gluck, whose works she delivers in an equally new light as she does the works of their lesser known contemporaries. Cecilia Bartoli is an institution within the classical music scene. It is an honour to award her the 2012 Herbert von Karajan Music Prize.
