The Festival Summer Continues
In Autumn 2011 Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra will include a visit to Baden-Baden in their itinerary, continuing their successful work from summer. They will launch the Festspielhaus season on 6th October performing their already highly acclaimed concert programme, which includes Mozart’s “Haffner” Symphony and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, supported by the wonderful acoustics of the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

The season continues with equal prominence in the field of dance, with the Hamburg Ballet John Neumeier performing Neumeier’s two creations “Floating Worlds” and “Orpheus”. Roberto Bollo - currently considered the world’s leading male dancer – will dance the leading role in “Orpheus” on 14th and 15th October 2011. It is for him that John Neumeier specifically created this ballet in 2010. An injury forced Bolle to pull out of the premiere in Hamburg, so it is with great anticipation that we look forward to the “Orpheus” debut in Baden-Baden.

Soon after – from 28th to 30th October 2011 – Valery Gergiev will present the winners of the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition. Thanks to the commitment of the Mariinsky director from St. Petersburg, the competition was able to take place in 2011 in all its old grandeur and splendour. Daniil Trifonov - winner of the piano section - will start the ball rolling, performing Tchaikovsky’s 1st Piano Concerto on 28th October 2011 in the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Tchaikovsky’s symphonies No. 1 and No. 6 will also be performed.
Narek Hakhnazaryan, who took first place in the cello division, will follow up with the Variations on a Rococo Theme Op. 33 on 29th October 2011, with Symphonies No. 2 and No. 4 also on the programme.
Sergey Dogadin – the best-placed violinist of the 2011 Tchaikovsky Competition (in this section there was no first prize) – will complete the Russian series on 30th October 2011 with the Violin Concerto in D Major. Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra will also perform the 3rd and 5th Symphonies from the great Russian composer Peter I. Tchaikovsky.
